Review: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

I picked this book up from the library a few months ago and I’m glad I did. I read it pre- read it write creation, yet it was good enough for me to still be thinking about it months later.
Small- town Mercy Falls has one thing most other small- towns lack- a pack of wolves that inhabit the forest all winter long.

Ever since she can remember, Grace has been mesmerized by the wolves, in particular a yellow-eyed wolf, ‘her wolf’.  Every winter when the wolves return, Grace looks forward to seeing her special wolf. He’s always there for her by Christmas, gazing out of the forest into her backyard.

Sam, on the other hand, lives for the summer. Summer is the only time he can truly be human- have human thoughts, human logic, look like a human.

When a series of events bring Sam and Grace together in a situation they never expected, both of their lives are destined to be changed forever, whether that be for the good or for the bad. Now they have to fight to stay together or risk losing each other for good.

I have to admit, when I first picked up ‘Shiver’ I was a bit skeptical. I thought it was going to be just another boy meets girl book that would bore me within the first few chapters. I couldn’t have been more wrong. It captivated me from the very start. I simply couldn’t put it down. I read all 380 pages in about three days and loved every minute of it. This isn’t your typical romance book or your typical werewolf book, it’s something else altogether.

Shiver’s auther, Maggie Stiefvater, is probably among my top 10, if not 5, favourite authors now after reading Shiver. She is an incredible writer who uses a fantastic mix of sarcasm, wit and humor to make her stories interesting, even in slower scenes.

I would recommend Shiver to anyone. And that takes a lot. One other thing? I just found out that Shiver is in the very first stages of becoming a movie. (Score!) The rights are owned by Warner Bros. Unfortunately, they haven’t even begun casting yet, so there’s going to be a wait until the movie. All the more time for you to track down this book and read it for yourself!

Review: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

So, Rachel and I went to the library the other day and checked out about 20 books between the two of us, (no joke) and this was the first one I read. I actually just finished it this morning! It was very good, and I can't wait to read the sequel Pandemonium. I had trouble starting the next book in my library pile because I wanted to read the sequel so bad! But alas, I must read the others so I can provide you good people with more reviews! :)

First of all, (I felt the need to bring this up as it kind of confused me) WHY SO MANY COVERS? It seems a bit excessive... I guess Lauren Oliver just couldn't decide! I don't even know which one was the original cover art, but I personally like the last two.

Delirium is set in a dystopian-type world, where the government is in complete control of the people. Or so they think. The central plot follows 17 year old Lena Haloway as she nears her "procedure".

In this nightmarish version of our reality, love is considered to be a disease, and something that will distract people from what really matters. Over the years, a cure has been developed to rid people of the disease. Each person is required to undergo this procedure when they turn 18.

Lena has always believed in this lie, that love is terrible. She has even looked forward to her procedure, and the supposed "happiness" it is said to bring her. That is, until she meets Alex...

I really enjoyed the book, and I highly recommend it. It is fast paced, and exciting. If you enjoy romance in novels, then you are sure to love this one. :) (I have to admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for romance...) I am very excited to post a bigger review of this book later when Rachel has read it, so I can talk about what I thought in more depth without spoiling the experience for her! Ha ha!

      keep readin' it write!

Welcome!

Books. If you love them, you have come to the write place. And no, that is not a typo, I meant to say WRITE.

You see, that is only a third of what we do at this humble site here. WRITE. What are the other two thirds, you ask? Why only READ and REVIEW of course!

WRITE. READ. REVIEW.

or

READ. WRITE. REVIEW.

or

REVIEW. READ. WRITE.

Whichever order your heart desires, we will still do them all. :) You see, we are two humans, (still awaiting confirmation on the human part actually...) with a passion for the written word, and a desire to write and read, and think about what we have written and read. That sounded confusing.

anywhooo...

we will teach you how to read it write! we hope you enjoy our site! (WOWZA, random poetry out of nowhere)
